This work dealt with the theme of colour. I explored how colours are used and the role they play when perceiving art, craft artefacts or the construction of space. I chose three colours for my work: blue, red and white.
Although they are not complementary colours, the contrast is what draws me to them, as well as their significant association with the Virgin Mary, who is my patron saint.

Virgin Mary in blue, red and white.

I feel the most strongly about the brightness and vitality of blue, the eros and animality of red, and the purity and awe of white. In my work, I chose blue, red and white as the colours representing the Virgin Mary.
I cloaked them to a typical religious object– the baptismal font. The shape was designed to evoke Jesus’ becoming into this world, specifically his birth. The outline of the baptismal font follows the shape of the vulva and the red glaze represents blood.
The sacred blue glaze summons life into the world, Mary's robe. The white, pure porcelain is the pain and miracle that accompanies childbirth. This work portrays Mary’s unique character and her independence regardless of what circumstances bring.

The baptismal font was donated to the loreto of Rumburk, a town in the north of the Czech Republic.
