the horse comes first
an equestrian monument that is not a glorifying statue, but an exhausted and broken horse that turns to follow its master.
the ruler, who has decorated his rooms with gold and porcelain, is portrayed as a powerful leader, protector of his people and the whole country.
as his army conquers more territory outside the walls, his palaces are filled with artistic treasures.
it raises the question of whether it is possible to celebrate something that causes suffering. soldiers returned home as victorious heroes, laden with trophies but often broken themselves and on the back of a wretched animal.
equestrian statues and their pedestals are usually inscribed with the names of the rulers, the dates of the battles and the heroic deeds they performed.
i question the legitimacy of their actions.
that's why mine is without an inscription and without a rider.
there is only the horse.
